The short answer

What goes into a paver driveway that lasts in Central Florida?

A driveway is only as good as what sits under it. Orlando soil is mostly sand, so a lasting paver driveway needs the old slab removed, a compacted aggregate base sized for car weight, a screeded sand bed, a solid edge restraint, and joint sand locked in after the pavers are set. Skip any of those and the pavers rut, spread or sink.
  • Demolition and haul-away of old concrete
  • Compacted base for vehicle loads
  • Edge restraint so the field cannot spread
  • Optional sealing after installation

The work

Paver Driveways, done the right way

Your driveway is the first thing people see and the surface that takes the most abuse. Florida heat, afternoon storms and daily car traffic are hard on plain concrete, which is why so many Orlando homes end up with cracked slabs and stained, uneven joints.

Pavers handle that better. Each unit can flex with the ground instead of cracking, and if a section ever needs work, it can be lifted and reset instead of torn out. We handle the whole job, from breaking out the old driveway to the last pass of the plate compactor.

  • Tear-out and haul-awayWe remove the existing concrete or asphalt and clear the debris so you start clean.
  • Base built for carsExcavation to the right depth, compacted aggregate base and a screeded bedding layer.
  • Pattern and borderHerringbone, ashlar or running bond, with a soldier border that frames the drive.
  • Edge restraint and joint sandRestraint along every open edge and sand swept and compacted into the joints.

Built for Florida

Sand, sun and summer storms decide how long pavers last. We build for all three.

On some sound slabs an overlay can work, but most cracked Orlando driveways are better removed. Cracks under an overlay keep moving and show through. We look at your slab at the estimate and tell you which option makes sense.
Most residential driveways take a few days from demolition to cleanup, depending on size, access and weather. We give you a clear schedule before work starts.
Yes, when the base is built for vehicle loads. That is the part of the job we do not cut corners on: the base depth and compaction are what keep a driveway from rutting.
Sealing is optional but it helps in Florida. It locks joint sand, slows weed growth and makes oil and rust stains easier to clean. Many homeowners seal after the pavers have cured.
