The short answer

How do you fix standing water in a Central Florida yard?

It starts with finding the cause: low spots, soil sloping toward the house, downspouts dumping next to the foundation, or a patio with no way for water to escape. Depending on the yard, the fix can be regrading, downspout extensions, a French drain that carries water away underground, or a channel drain along the edge of the pavers.

  • Downspout extensions
  • Regrading low spots
  • Channel drains next to pavers

The work

Drainage Solutions, done the right way

Orlando summer storms drop a lot of water in a short time. In many yards it has nowhere to go: it sits in the lawn for days, pools against the foundation, washes sand out from under pavers and turns side yards into mud.

Standing water is more than an eyesore. It kills grass, breeds mosquitoes and is one of the main reasons pavers sink. We have been working on Orlando properties since 2016, and a lot of the paver repairs we see start with a drainage problem, so we look at the whole picture before recommending a fix.

  • Drainage assessmentWe walk the yard, look at slopes, downspouts and low spots, and find where water collects.
  • French drainsA gravel trench with perforated pipe that collects water and carries it away from problem areas.
  • Downspout extensionsRoof water carried away from the foundation instead of dumping beside it.
  • RegradingSoil reshaped so water flows away from the house and patios instead of toward them.
  • Channel drains by paversDrains set along driveways, patios and pool decks to catch water at the edge.

Built for Florida

FAQ

Drainage Solutions questions

Not always. Some yards only need downspout extensions or some regrading. A French drain makes sense when water collects in an area that cannot be fixed by reshaping the soil. We recommend the simplest fix that works for your yard.
Yes. Water running under pavers washes out the sand and base, which leads to low spots and loose pavers. Fixing the drainage first is what keeps a paver repair from failing again.
It depends on the yard. Usually it is carried to a lower area of the property, a swale or another spot where it can soak in or flow away safely. We plan the outlet before we dig.
Yes. Looks Good Pavers & Outdoors is licensed and insured, and our installation work comes with a 2-year warranty.
